Q1 - What do you understand by PowerView?

Power View is a used for data visualization and is available in Excel 2013 and above version.
It help us in creating good and attractive data presentation through Charts, Graphs and Maps.

Q2 - How to add PowerView addins in Excel?

In Excel 2016, please follow below steps to add PowerView add-ids in Excel 2016.

Goto File ‘Menu’ bar and select Excel Options then follow below steps.

  1. Customize Ribbon
  2. Choose commands from : Commands Not in the Ribbon
  3. Insert a Power View Report
  4. Click Add
  5. PowerView add to MenuBar

After Adding PowerView you can see in ribbon as below.

Q3 - How PowerView is different from PowerPivot?

Below are few difference as per my understanding.

  • Power View is a used for data visualization and PowerPivot is used to summarized huge data.
  • PowerView is Graphs or Charts presentation where PowerPivot is Data representation in PivotTable.
  • PowerPivot is simple Excel Add-Inds where for PowerView we need Silverlight installed on the machine.
  • PowerView come as tab in Excel where for PowerPivot new window appears.

Q4 - How to add data to PowerView (Data Model)?

Please review ‘PowerPivot‘ for adding data to PowerView or Data Model, the Data model is common for PowerPivot, PowerView and PowerMaps.

Q5 - How to create PowerView table?

From custom ‘Menu’ bar ExcelVBATips.com click on PowerView and you will have below options.

  1. PowerView
  2. Title for page.
  3. Plot area for PivotTable
  4. Filter List
  5. FilterValue
  6. DataModel Fields
  7. Fields selected.

 

 

Let make a table in PowerView tab.

  1. Let give the title for your page. example – ExcelVBATips.com
  2. Select field as per requirement as we selected City and Sales fields for your analysis from box 6 in below snapshot.
  3. Row field – as we selected as City.
  4. Colum field – as we selected a product in below.
  5. Data fields – Sales in below snapshot.
  6. List of all fields we have in Data Model.
  7. OverView of selected fields.
  8. Switch visualization

The above image shows us the overview of data we have to summarized in Charts / Graphs or in Maps as per requirements.

We are creating table to make sure we are having accurate data for our graphical presentation, once we are happy with our data now we can start giving graphical view to data.

Q6 - How to create PowerView chart?

Once you have your PivotTable ready, you will have a option ‘Switch visualization‘ at left corner of PowerView menu bar.

Options are as follows.

  1. Table
  2. Bar Chart
  3. Column Chart
  4. Other Chart
  5. Map

Before going to make a Maps on globe we will create a basic chart as below.

Let make a Bar Chart, Click on your PowerView table and then goto ”Switch visualization” and select Bar Chart and Clustered Bar Chart.

Once you click Clustered Bar Chart, you will find your PowerView table is converted to a Bar Chart as below. customized the chart as per your requirement like color, width, height etc.

 

 

 

Q7 - How to create PowerView maps?

Let make a Sales analysis on India Map, Click on your PowerView table and then goto ”Switch visualization” and select Map.

Once you click Map, you will find your PowerView table is converted to a India Map as below. customized the chart as per your requirement like color, width, height etc.

 

In above image you will find few new field are added to Page.

  1. Title by
  2. Size
  3. Location
  4. Longitute
  5. Latitute
  6. Color etc

Let make few change in above in above snapshot.

Now we are dragging Category into Color field, removing Sales field and adding budget fields

 

In above snapshot, we can see budget is divide into three category and is showing in color.

Q8 - What do you understand by ''Switch visualization''?
